New music from The Horrorist

by Oliver Chesler on October 25, 2009

Late last year I moved from Berlin to New York City. I also bought a small building that needed some serious renovations. Before I left Berlin I had about twenty unreleased songs ready for my next album after Attack Decay (Amazon link). Life happened and everything went into moving boxes. Months later still no album release date. That’s the reason I released a few of those songs free over the past few months. In case you missed them here they are.

I’m proud of these three. I honestly feel Born this Way is my best song-writing effort to date. I Stand by You goes back to my EBM roots and was created to be performed live. I only posted a preview of We Will Get Wicked (I have to leave some goodies for the album right?). I think you will enjoy the lock the door and do bad things lyrics.

Hi Oliver,
i listened to those tracks a few months ago, and then did it again today. Modern is really creative and i love it. We will get wicked is seductive two with it’s retro sound and groove (cool trans-europe-expresslike break).
I stand with you and born this way seem a little bit too much produced to me…but your songs must be listened during the listening of the whole next album.
I took an ear too to Richter’s track, and i feel a little desappointed…i think i could do better than him. Isn’t richter a french guy? I can hear his french accent and it doesnt sound good to me. Sorry, my friend!…

Please don’t forget to tell us dark short stories like the virus or one night in NYC, i like them so much… don’t write lyrics only at the first personn!

From an admirator and fan waiting for more,

Simon PoP

Thanks Simon. I appreciated your comments! The main reason for making music is to share and hear what people like/dislike. Although it’s taking my usual extra long time to get my next album out I think most people will be pleased. In May I am building a new studio and I really want to finish the last songs in that new space. Right now I am limited recording vocals so… Richter is from Italy; I will do an interview with him so people can get to know him a little better. PoP on!

Dear Simonpop, your comments on someone else music sounds a little bit ridicolous to me.
Before than say you could do better than somebody else, you should take actions and prove it.
How you can judge also a song by listening only 40 seconds in the intro?
If you would knew who is really Richter, you would definitely avoid those type of comments.
Respect to him and respect to Oliver Chesler and Thingstocome Records.
A fan of yours from Verona,Italy.

Hi Marco,

ok, it’s a bit too much, i shouldn’t say that kind of things to anyone as i wouldn’t like someone to say that to me. Hmmm…
Anyway, i’m making music too, i left above my myspace adress, so you can crucify me as well!

Have a nice day

Well we shouldn’t be afraid of opinions. Music is totally subjective… in fact there is a large pool of tunes that I used to hate that I now think are amazing. We need strong criticism and competition… it makes the world a better place!

Very wise, mr Chesler.

True mr.Chesler.
But anyone should critizise a song after listening 40 seconds of the intro.
And things like “i could do better than him” are totally wrong to say, since as you said, music is something subjective.
And since mr.Simonpop have no idea about Richter skills or backgrounds.

I don’t need to crucify you,Simonpop.
Music is mostly a matter of tastes. The one which match your tastes may not match my tastes and viceversa.
Talking about me,for example,i prefer much more Richter music than your own, cause the two styles are completely different and his match more my tastes than yours. This with all due respect for your music.

And if we’re talking about musical skills,i can tell you since i work on this buisness too: few people i’ve met in my career all around the world got the talent and the musical skills Richter have.

By the way: i’m not his lawyer and he’s not a personal friend of mine.

Have a nice day too.

How do they says? “Says good things or says bad things, the important people talk about it” :)

Marco, thank you for the support.National one is always welcome and major labels people too (if i’m not mistaking you with someone else…)

Simonpop: basically i agree with Oliver,althought i don’t feel the music as a competion,since i’m not an F1 racer,but a way to express myself.
I’m a professional musician since i was 12,so i’m used to good critics and bad ones.
I think bad ones are more important than good, since those helps on improving your skills, when are useful and well argued.

In the other hand,i don’t waste my time on listening critics when those are not well argued or based on envy…i consider this whole thing only boring (i’m talking in general, don’t misunderstand).

So i invite you to listen better my songs (the complete and mastered version of these and the remixes which are all very good for me) and whatever you have to say about, let me know, even with private messages if you like.
As i said, well argued opinions are always very welcome.

And sorry for my north-western italian accent (i’m the guy singing, not the girl) ;)
Have a good day.

“I think i could do better than him”.
This is the kind of sentence we always should think twice before saying, furthermore before writing it on the web.
I was a little naïve having thought i was exclusively speaking to mr Chesler…
Sorry Richter!
i hope listening to your complete tracks soon, as a big fan of TTCR.
“Italians do it better”, isn’t it?

Don’t worry man,everything was fine.
Everyone make mistakes and the important thing is be smart enough and not repeat again the same mistake in the future.
Thank you in advance if you will decide to listen my music, hope it can match your tastes.

And yes…women around the world generally thinks italians does it better ;)

I can’t wait to hear your new album,Oliver.I’m a fan of yours.
And i’m really happy finally Richter EP is about to be released.
I know him personally and he got really a great talent for music.
A huge talent among other great talents…Things to Come Records is really getting better and better!
Hope to see all of you play here,in the near future.

Richter: your accent sounds good, you shouldn’t apologize about anything.People should know things before judge and try to keep a lower profile (in other words,be more humile).
Keep up the awesome work,man!

Greetings from Milano! R.

Guys,
stop it, please. I just said what i felt on the instant. I don’t know richter’s work enough to judge it, OK. But i think i said more interesting things about the Horrorist. I could write a book about manic panic, you know? Give your opinion so we can speak about it too.
