I am pleased to announce I am working on a new EP with Radical G. You can hear a clip of the first song we are working on called Here Comes the Storm above. Glenn is from Belgium so he has Electronic Body Music rhythms in his blood. I think we will have another two songs finished by August and soon after we will take the stage together here and there. I expect this EP to be a big one.

So I am just back from a long weekend in Poland. To get there I had the usual trek to JFK and all it’s long term parking and security nonsense, a 2 hour layover in Amsterdam and 4 hour drive from Warsaw to Sopot. By the time I arrived I had just enough time to soundcheck, shave, shower and go back to the venue to perform. Luckily even with 30 hours of nonstop packing and travel behind me once on stage in front of such hyped up kids I felt totally fresh. Sopot is a vacation town on the Baltic Sea. In fact the nightclub which is strangely named Sfinks700 is in a small green park with views of the beach. Kids from the event are free to go in out of the club down to the water. The sound system was really sharp and loud and I tried on a new tall hat and a see through pixelated Mitt Romney mask for the song “The World Will Know Us”. The other DJs including Tymon, Sebastian, Matt Green, PZG and the Warsaw Speedcore Team all were great. The lovely promoter Nicole told me some kids didn’t believe I was going to show up and there were some naysayers saying the event would flop. I am happy to report both were greatly unfounded! I had fun watching kids on a new drug called “Methadrome”. Correct me if I have that name wrong. EDIT: I have been notified it’s called “Mephedrone”. It was described to me as ecstacy that you snort that doesn’t last as long. It has an interesting side effect in that you often loose some recent memory. Scary and fun? All I know is people looked like that were having a great time. I met some very cool people there and now can add Poland to one of those places I want to return to. This kicks off a series of summer live shows and DJ sets I am doing. Next up is NYC, Newcastle and Dortmund. Oh there is going to be many more photos from this event and I will add them to my flickr account and Facebook profile as I get them!

This Friday night I will be performing live in Sopot, Poland. Sopot which is next to Gdänsk is 4 hours north of Warsaw on the Baltic Sea. I’ve bever been there before but looking at Google Maps I see it’s on the beach lined with resort hotels. I will be performing at the Sfinks 700 club. This show kicks off my summer season and upcoming shows in Newcastle, Dortmund, Berlin, Barcelona, Växjö Sweden, Bogota and Montreal. I can’t wait to get on stage.

The Horrorist DJ Set – May 24, 2013 – The Wreck Room by Thingstocome on Mixcloud

Friday night I did a DJ set at the Wreck Room in Bushwick. Bushwick has been transforming from a war zone to partly artist area for a while. Arriving on the block of the venue it reminded me of going out in the East Village in the late 80s. The Wreck Room is awash in red lights and graffiti with a long bar as soon as you enter. The sound system is wack as in not much bass but it’s loud enough and distorts in a way that feels more punk than just plain cheap. While I have been making DJing mixes for a long time I rarely play as a DJ out. I’ve been solely focused on my live act but this event signals a push to add DJ gigs to my overall repertoire. In fact I purposely didn’t promote Friday night because I wanted a warm up gig. I plan on playing a few different styles depending on where I can play. Im working on an old school EBM set and an cold wave obscur synthpop set. The first style I have ready is purely techno. You can hear about 30 minutes of what I did on Friday on Mixcloud (link). Track selection is really important to me and I’m spending a huge amount of time finding not only what I like but tracks that fit a certain danceable mindset. DJing and playing live feel and are very different to me. However, I do have an F1 Controller (like a little Monome) and I plan on deconstructing some of my own songs and playing them “live” in my DJ sets too. If you asked me what is the most important website to get EBM, goth, synthpop and New Wave news hands down I would say Side-Line. I love when I am mentioned there and they just reviewed my latest album Fire Funmania (link). I am extremely glad they like it. It took me about 18 months to create the songs and even though the initial release came out a month ago the party is only getting started. The cassette, limited German CD and 12″ and merchandise are all forthcoming. I also didn’t forget to let you know the behind the scenes production and song writing wise. I will start tomorrow with “Enter the Sex Game” so stay tuned.
